Real Madrid manager Julen Lopetegui believes Sevilla deserved to win

The Blaugrana had a number of opportunities at goal but failed to capitalise on them, the highlight was Lionel Messi's effort hitting the post.

With Dani Carvajal and Isco Alarcon - who underwent an emergency appendectomy on Tuesday - unavailable, Real Madrid coach Julen Lopetegui had to adjust his lineup, while keeping in mind the impending capital derby against Atletico Madrid.

Oscar is on loan from Real Madrid. The Brazilian has scored once in his last 31 games; a run stretching back to December 2017.

Madrid's defeat was more drastic in terms of the scoreline, although in Sevilla they found motivated, high-class opponents, who attacked relentlessly.

After Philippe Coutinho put Barcelona ahead with a technically exquisite volley, the visitors were stunned by a second-half double from Nabil El Zhar and Oscar Rodriguez - on loan from Real Madrid - in the space of just 68 seconds.

Two of the three goals were created by him, and his presence of mind to notice his players running alongside him helped Sevilla register a big win against the La Liga top dogs.

"They netted twice and were very clinical early on. It was a poor performance on our part and Sevilla are deserved winners". It'd be opportunistic to say we didn't prepare for the game adequately but it looks like that was the case.

Instead, they continued their attacking style of play till the end of the game, pushing Real Madrid onto their back foot every single time; one of the few reasons why one should love Sevilla.

Luis Suarez started the match on the bench and couldn't do much when he was brought on in the second half to try to reverse the team's disadvantage.

FW Ousmane Dembele, 5 - The French winger has been one of Barcelona's standout players this season but came up with his worst display at Butarque.

This will not have been the Real Madrid dream start imagined by Thibaut Courtois but he refused to lean on the excuse that he didn't get to bed until dawn on the night of the FIFA The Best awards just 48 hours before the 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Sevilla.

MF Toni Kroos, 4 - Carved himself a chance that went into the second tier but was pickpocketed in the lead-up to Vazquez rattling the bar. It was the first league loss for Athletic, which was coming off three straight draws. "In the league, these things happen and they will happen to ever team". At 1-0 you're close to an accident.

Valencia is yet to win in seven matches in all competitions this season.
