The Olympic Opening ceremony is one of the most controlled security events there is.

According to South Korea's Unification Ministry, a total of 1,127 people made the escape in 2017, down from nearly 3,000 in 2,941 in 2009.

The organizers of the PyeongChang Winter Olympics said its servers were hacked by an unidentified attacker during the opening ceremony the previous day.

IOC President Thomas Bach referenced the issue of doping in a his brief address.

"I was worried there might be some problem", she said. The Olympic anthem is being performed now.

"We get along personally, so I believe that Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un, if they talked they'd probably get along". Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut tweeted, "Why does Pence hate the opening ceremonies?"

Bach also remarks on the power of sport bringing the two Koreas together.

Other highlights during the parade of nations into the stadium included the U.S. team arriving to the ubiquitous 2012 hit "Gangam Style" and the flagbearer for Tonga, skier Pita Taufatofua, carrying his country's banner shirtless. Then in 30 minutes we'll see the ignition of the Olympic flame. Startlingly, he also equalled the record for the longest gap between Olympic medals, with that pair coming 20 years after he claimed silver at the 1994 Lillehammer Games.

"While delivering a letter from Kim Jong-un, chairman of the State Affairs Commission, which contained his stated willingness to improve South-North Korea relations, special envoy Kim Yo-jong orally delivered Chairman Kim Jong-un's invitation (for Moon) to visit the North at a time convenient to him, saying he is willing to meet President Moon Jae-in at the earliest date possible", the spokeswman told a press briefing. "It's head-hunting, bragging rights", Rustici was quoted as saying.

It was always going to be a monumental task for either Korea to beat Switzerland, much less a unified team that had only a few weeks of practice together. At any moment, he could have gotten up and left and sat somewhere else, and then you would have had the imagine of North sitting in the box with South Korea and Japan. Their flag-bearer is a volunteer from Pocog, the Olympic organizing committee.

Any meeting would represent a diplomatic coup for Moon, who swept to power last year on a policy of engaging more with the reclusive North.
