Dolphins vs. Falcons: Halftime takeaways

Posted Octubre 16, 2017

The third quarter was a bad one for the Falcons on Sunday. The Dolphins have gone an impressive 6-2 against the spread in their last eight October road games, so that is positive. But mostly you got the best run-blocking of the year right to the end of the game when Ajayi had back-to-back 18-yard runs. Meanwhile, the Falcons are getting several key players back from injury this week, including starters Vic Beasley, Ryan Schraeder and Ricardo Allen.

A roughing-the-quarterback penalty on Grady Jarrett negated another interception by Jones deep in Atlanta territory, and Miami scored on the very next play when Cutler flipped a 7-yard touchdown pass to Landry.

The Falcons rank eighth in points, fourth in yards, seventh in passing yards, and eighth in rushing yards-per-game.

-Dolphins LT Laremy Tunsil vs. Falcons DE Adrian Clayborn. His two drops were as many as he had all last season. The Dolphins offense struggled mightily in the first half as the defense began to wear down. Against the Chargers, he gave up two sacks and three pressures.

"There's going to be multiple guys that are going to have to cover him at some point, because he's not going to be in one spot, fire a flare and let everybody know where he's at".

PLAYER SPOTLIGHT: Dolphins DE Cam Wake. As a result, the offense may finally get some rhythm. Miami's secondary has not seen anything like Jones, and will probably be forced to double-team him all game. In fact, this week might be a jump-off point.

Miami's defense remains solid, though, and has kept the team competitive regardless of the shortcomings on the other side of the ball. The Dolphins had great success running the football on the Falcons. He exited Week 4 with a hip flexor injury but had the bye week to rest up. Landry had a touchdown grab. He has 36 catches in his past five road contests.

While the front seven has the big names, the secondary includes the most versatile safety in the NFL. The last pass by Ryan however bounced off a well defended Austin Hooper with help from rookie corner Cordrea Tankersley and Reshad Jones hauled the pass in for a game sealing interception. Most of all, he is the emotional leader of the defense.
